Dental implants are artificial teeth restorations that are secured in place with titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jawbone acting as an artificial root.

Dental implants are artificial teeth restorations that are secured in place with titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jawbone acting as an artificial root. The artificial crown is then attached to the post with an extension or abutment.

Some damage to your teeth may only require an easy, cosmetic solution. If you have a crack or a chip you may only need dental bonding or a porcelain veneer. If you have suffered severe damage or decay you may need to have your tooth extracted. You may also have an accident that knocks a tooth out. Whatever the cause, if you have a gap where a tooth is missing, you should really have it replaced. One of the best replacement options today is a dental implant.

The team at Burch Dental has a simple goal. That is to ensure your trust through our commitment to quality treatment and your continued satisfaction. It is our daily agenda to maintain a caring environment that is respectful and comfortable for everyone. Our team members are united in our efforts to promote oral health by means of prevention, enhancement, wellness, and rejuvenation. Call or visit one of our convenient locations today to schedule your appointment for an evaluation regarding a potential dental filling restoration.

Around 50 million Americans every year experience tooth-loss. Bridges and dentures are traditionally the best option, but there have been technological innovations regarding different types of dental implants. Dental implants are becoming a common and popular procedure.

The Benefits of Choosing Dental Implants

Dental implants will offer you some significant benefits including the following:

  • Improved aesthetics: Dental implants will improve the natural appearance of your healthy smile as well as your jawline and prevent any premature sagging of your face that will develop with missing teeth.
  • An upgrade from dentures: Since they become fused to your jawbone, dental implants will not have to be removed, like dentures, which will improve your ability to chew and speak naturally.
  • Structural integrity: By filling in the gaps, dental implants not only preserve the density of the jawbone, but they also reduce the likelihood of infections.
  • Overall oral health: Patients who have dental implants placed report an improved ability to brush and floss normally, which results in improved overall oral health.

Dental implants can be a terrific option for you if you are looking for a long-term solution for your missing teeth. If you would like to learn more about dental implants, please contact our staff at Burch Dental and set up a consultation.

The Dental Implant Procedure

The process of having a dental implant placed will take several appointments and several months to complete.

The first step is at your initial evaluation. We will take x-rays to determine the density of your jawbone to see if it can properly support the implant. If the jawbone has atrophied, we may have to include bone grafting. If there is a damaged or decayed tooth that must be extracted, we will remove it as well.

After these preliminary steps are finished, we will begin the actual implant procedure by administering a local anesthetic to the immediate area. When the tissue is sufficiently numb, we will make a small incision to gain access to your jawbone. We then drill an exceedingly small hole and insert the titanium post into your jawbone.

The next step takes time and patience. It will take a few months for the post to grow or fuse to the jawbone. This is an important stage because this is how the stability and strength are secured. Once this step is completed, we add an abutment or extension to reach the surface of your gumline. At this point we either screw or cement the artificial crown on the abutment and your dental implant is finished.

A Dental Implant versus a Dental Bridge

If you are a viable candidate for a dental implant, you might also consider a dental bridge, especially if you have experienced significant bone loss. A dental bridge uses the two adjacent natural teeth as abutments to support the artificial tooth or teeth to fill the gap. There are several versions of dental bridges that can be used, including traditional, cantilever, Maryland, and even implant-supported bridges.

The benefit of the dental bridge is that the procedure is less invasive. Dental bridges are also considerably faster and less expensive, but your dental implant will last much longer, so you may end up spending more in the long run by choosing a bridge. Both treatment options are viable solutions for addressing missing teeth. Burch Dental will evaluate your best option with you.
